Cairns’ Isabel Lucas takes place among stars
IF Isabel Lucas is judged by the company she keeps, the former Cairns schoolgirl will soon be a Hollywood heavyweight.
Lucas has been cast alongside Oscar-winners Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett in Knight of Cups, the plot of which is secretive even to the actors.
The 27-year-old is in Europe at the moment but will return to the US before the end of June when filming begins.
Her father Andrew Lucas said the opportunity to work under the guidance of revered director Terrence Malick proved the main lure for his daughter.
“Of course Isabel’s excited about working with those three (Portman, Bale and Blanchett) but he’s the big attraction,” Mr Lucas said.
Lucas has not seen the script and Malick, who directed the The Thin Red Line in 1998, has kept a tight lid on the film’s plot.
Movie website IMDb states Knight of Cups is about “A man… in search of love and truth”.
“It’s long been kept under wraps,” Mr Lucas said.
“The plot of the story hasn’t even been explained to the
participants.“He works quite differently to many other directors.”
He said his daughter was thrilled to be able to work with Australian star Blanchett.
“Isabel holds Cate in high regard,” Mr Lucas said.
“She’s just an amazing, capable actress.”
Lucas also stars in thriller Red Dawn alongside Australian Chris Hemsworth and The Loft with James Marsden.
Mr Lucas said his daughter’s rise to international fame was a testament to her dedication to acting.
“Clearly, we’re very pleased,” he said.
“Everyone knows that the American economy has been going through challenges and Hollywood is no exception but thankfully Isabel has been getting a lot of offers.”
A former St Monica’s school student, Lucas was discovered by talent agent Sharron Meissner while shopping at Port Douglas markets in 2003.
She landed a role in Home and Away within months and scored a Logie Award for Most Popular Female Talent a year later.
Since heading to Hollywood in 2008, she has been cast in a string of movies including Transformers 2, Daybreakers and Immortals and TV war series The Pacific.
As we first posted about a few weeks ago, Isabel has lent her support to the Rose D’or Festival this year. The festival took place this week, and Isabel was in attendance for the opening and closing events. Last weekend she cut the ribbon to announce the opening of the festival, and wore a typically pretty hippy style cream dress and trademark headband for the event. Further down this post is an article on the festival’s opening. And then on Thursday she was back in attendance for the closing day’s Awards Night, at which she presented Jeremy Clarkson the Lifetime Achievement award for his show Top Gear.
During her time there, Isabel also did an interview for a Swiss publication, and posed for some photos for them. Therefore we have a couple of new photoshoot pictures! She posed in her hotel, and against a backdrop of the mountains with her sister. In the interview (which I will post here asap as soon as I can translate it properly), she said that she likes vegemite with cheese, prefers cows to kangaroos, and admits that she has never seen Ayers Rock in person!
It’s great to see Isabel back in her native Switzerland! Enjoy all the new photos in our Gallery…

The cocktail will also mark the opening of an exhibition of photography by Michel Comte.
Apologies for the delay, but I have now caught up on all candids from this past week! As we know, in between her visits to Switzerland (see post above), Isabel spent a couple of days in New York City for the Met Ball. She was snapped out and about in the City during her time there, and looked her usual adorable self (check out her cute, sly smiles in a few photos!). FYI: the book Isabel is carrying on May 8th is called ‘Aurian’ by Maggie Furey.
As well as 3 days worth of candids, I’ve also added more photos from the Met Ball (finally, I found more!), including 3 pretty HQs and some really great shots of Isabel with the Proenza Schouler boys.
Thanks to Lindsey and Jessica for some of these photos.
• May 6th, New York City x33
• May 7th, New York City x40
• May 8th, New York City x8
• Costume Institute Gala x4 more/1 replaced with HQ
Well Isabel did make an appearance at the Costume Institute Gala last night, but it was a rather low-key one. I have searched all over the web today, and all I can find are two photos from the event, which you can now view in our Gallery. Her Proenza Schouler outfit was a beautiful and unique peacock coloured short dress, which she paired with boots and a loose up-do hairstyle. It certainly doesn’t compare to her stunning Louis Vuitton dress last year, but I think Isabel looks really pretty here (love the hair and make-up), and the colour looks good on her.
It’s strange how her appearance was so low-key and not really talked about, especially given her rising style icon status. I have read a rumour that the design team were not interested in being seen with her, which - if true - is a shame.
Still, despite the disappointing lack of buzz surrounding her appearance, we can still enjoy the two pictures we do have … :-)
As we previously reported, Isabel will be attending the Met Ball in New York City tonight, where she will be the date of design label Proenza Schouler. After last years spectacular Lous Vuitton coral gown and trend-setting headpiece, I am very excited to see what she will wear this year!
This year, for the first time, the red carpet arrivals are being streamed online for fans to watch, and you can try to catch a glimpse of Isabel by watching the stream between 6:30pm and 8:30pm EDT (US) by clicking the link below.
We will have photos and any tidbits etc. from the big event for you tomorrow :)

THEY seemed a match made in vegan heaven, but we hear Aussie singer Angus Stone and Isabel Lucas have split.
Stone is believed to have recently moved out of the Byron Bay home he once shared with the 27-year-old actress and is now living at a nearby residence in the northern NSW beach town.
The break-up is only fresh, says a source close to Stone, who was last seen publicly with Lucas late last year.
The split comes just a week after the popular muso released his second solo single Bird On The Buffalo and credited Lucas for inspiring his upcoming album Broken Brights.
“She has really shined a light on a whole new part of me,” Stone said of Lucas, who appears in the song’s film clip.
The two began dating in 2010. Stone, 25, refused to comment yesterday.
Stone has also gone solo musically, splitting with his sister Julia Stone with whom he found success in Australia and the UK thanks to their hit, Big Jet Plane.
Hello Isabel fans! Over the last few days I’ve been adding a ton of photos to the Gallery, most of which are pics from various categories that I’ve had lying around on my computer for a while. The main new addition is the rest of the photos I have from the Immortals premiere - I meant to add these at the time, but they kind of got lost amidst other things! So we have a lot of new photos - normal sized and HQ - from the premiere, plus the after party photos have been replaced with HQ versions. There’s some gorgeous shots in there. Many of the ASOS Sydney Launch event photos from 2011, and New York Fashion Week 2012 photos, have been replaced with HQs too.
What else is notably new in there? Various other albums have had photos replaced with HQ versions, including the TV Week Logie Awards from 2006, and the 2006 Film Ink Awards which include some cute shots with Chris Hemsworth. Screencaps from the Human Rights Film Festival have been added, as have caps from the short behind the scenes video for ‘Bird On The Buffalo’. There’s also a gorgeous new unknown photoshoot, of Isabel (and Angus in one shot, I think?) posing in what looks to be a nature reserve or forest of sorts - beautiful and natural!
To see all new additions, just view our Last Uploads page in the Gallery, and the most notable new additions are also listed below.
• “Immortals” Los Angeles Premiere x150-ish more
• ASOS Launch In Sydney x several replaced with HQs
• New York Fashion Week - Y-3 Front Row & Backstage x several replaced with HQs
• Photoshoots > Unknown - #014 x2
• Human Rights Arts & Film Festival > 2012 Promotional Video x14
• Interviews & TV Appearances > Young Hollywood Studio - 2011 (Stills) x3 more
Isabel will be attending the Costume Institute Gala (Met Ball) again this year! You won’t have forgotten her stunning coral Louis Vuitton gown and headpiece from last years event. She will again be walking the red carpet at the big event, held this year on May 7th. Off the top of my head, I don’t remember Isabel having worn Proenza Schouler before, so we will be in for an extra treat seeing how she wears them.
It’s Met Ball season again! This means that designers will start “revealing” their dates — usually a model, actress, or model-slash-actress selected by a designer to personally clothe and then pose with on the red carpet. So far, the only major designer/celebrity pairing we know of is Joseph Altuzarra and Lana Del Rey, but there will surely be many more announcements as the date approaches (May 7!). Today we learned that Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez will escort Australian actress Isabel Lucas, according to a Proenza Schouler rep. Their designers’ date to last year’s gala was Kristen Stewart, a fitting match as she’d just worn their clothes for her February 2011 Vogue cover.
Isabel’s stunning look in Angus Stone’s new music video seems to be taking the fashion world by storm, and now Elle.com have an interview with the video’s stylist, Imogene Barron. It gives us a great insight into the making of the video and Isabel’s fashion sense.
Isabel Lucas, Chanel & Wolves for Angus Stone
Beauty abounds in the new music video for Angus Stone’s “Bird on the Buffalo.” Besides the music—charming, chugging neo-folk from the Australian singer-songwriter—both the background (the video was shot on location at Joshua Tree National Park) and the babe (actress Isabel Lucas, Stone’s real life girlfriend) are true stunners. But what really caught our attention was the clothing, which includes everything from fringed leather jackets and vintage embroidered dresses to lacy Chanel cruise gowns. “It makes your job a lot easier when you’ve got great designers involved,” admits the video’s stylist, Imogene Barron, who added, “It’s really nice that designers have started to support music videos, because they do reach such a larger audience. It’s nice to have another avenue than just editorial and to see the way [the clothing] moves and the way it fits. So I’m really happy that designers are now getting on board with the music side of things.”
ELLE: This music video takes place in the desert and features everything from wide shots of untouched sand dunes to flying owls. How did that translate into something with a high fashion bend?
Imogene Barron: One of my best friends, [designer] Jessie Hill, is the director, and I know Angus and Isabel as well, so it was a family vibe—which is nice to work from. The director and I had a bit of a conversation about it and I looked at mood boards and the treatment and obviously, being Isabel, thought, Let’s push it in the fashion department, because she carries clothing so well and is absolutely stunning. So it kind of went from there, taking inspiration from what the concept is and moving forward. I was definitely given free reign. The only brief I was given, in terms of direction of styling, is that the video takes you on a journey.ELLE: Let’s talk about the outfits that take Lucas’ character on her journey.
IB: She’s actually wearing a little Lover camisole and shorts in the bed scene, which you can’t really see as much. And then she’s a “real girl” and she’s outside in a little vintage dress and Isabel Marant boots—it’s an achievable look. And then she morphs into this beautiful goddess and we really took it up with the Chanel, which looks amazing on her. The headpiece that she’s wearing with it is custom-made by a French label, MellaSan, and we also had the little necklace with an owl custom made by Tiger Frame.ELLE: Was the Chanel dress a no-brainer?
IB: I definitely think having Chanel in there was perfect, because the collection reflected what we were trying to achieve. As soon as I saw that collection I thought, We have to get Isabel into that. All the colors of that collection just work so well in the desert setting. So I went to the Chanel cruise collection and there were probably two or three pieces that could have worked, but the combination of the fabrics and the dress work really, really well.ELLE: Where did you find that white, lace-collar vintage dress?
IB: That’s actually one of Isabel’s dresses! She has an amazing collection of vintage dresses. I wanted to evolve her a bit from being her regular self, but I definitely [also] wanted to reflect her personal style. If I’m working with people I like I often use a bit of their personal belongings, especially when you’re working closely with someone and it’s nice to have an element of them in there. I really wanted that look to be: she’s a regular girl, she’s walking down the street. I didn’t want to put her in anything too evening; I wanted her to feel a bit more raw and organic. Originally we were looking at a couple of other designer options, but everything felt a little too…I wanted the Chanel to really stand out.ELLE: Did Isabel keep anything from the shoot?
IB: I don’t think so, no. I think that designer might have been making her another headpiece. I’m sure she would have loved to keep the Chanel dress, but unfortunately she had to return that. As would we all, especially if you looked like that!- Elle.com
Angus Stone is officially the pilot of his own big jet plane. Despite finding fame as one half of sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone, the Byron Bay-based singer-songwriter has gone solo.
Speaking to Insider, Angus Stone explains his new album, Broken Brights (to be released in June), has been a long time in the making and he drew special inspiration from his girlfriend, actress Isabel Lucas.
“I’ve always been collecting songs and have written along the way for something like this,” Stone, 25, says of stepping out from his older sister Julia.
“We’ve both gone down different roads now and we’re exploring this side of music.”
For Stone, originally from Newport on Sydney’s northern beaches, Broken Brights is an album inspired by Lucas - a relationship that blossomed after they travelled through Redwood National Park in the US.
“She has really shined a light on a whole new part of me,” Stone says. “That (trip) presents the whole inspiration for the album. Swimming in the rivers, being amongst all that amazing power from the trees, falling in love and having it all just unfold.
“We spent our time getting to know each other for the first time at that place.”
Lucas, the 27-year-old Hollywood starlet who found her feet on Home and Away, has become more than just Stone’s creative spark behind the music. The pair also filmed the video for Broken Bright’s second single, Bird On The Buffalo (out last Friday).
One listen to the single’s spirited lyrics and it’s clear nature plays a strong part in Stone’s music ingenuity.
“There’s a lot of raw, wild energy,” he says. “Some of those places we shot were so untouched. It’s all about escaping into another world and finding yourself there.”
Now, with Lucas, a fresh band and his second solo album ready for release, Stone says it’s everything that he needed: change. “You do something for so long and you start to look for a bit of change and I’m coming to learn that a change of work is the best kind of rest,” says Stone.
“We (Julia and I) came off the road and tipped our hats.
I kind of left the guitars to get dusty so I could be inspired when I came back to do something fresh, and that fresh thing was going solo.”
But after sweeping the ARIA’s in 2010 and selling close to a million records since their debut EP in 2005, could the duo really have closed the door on Angus & Julia Stone? “I don’t think it’s done and dusted,” Stone hints. “We’re family. We can’t avoid each other for that long.”
Bird On The Buffalo is out now. Broken Brights due to be released in June.
